What is an Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Latte?

An iced brown sugar oatmilk latte is a smooth, indulgent iced coffee drink with the perfect balance of sweetness.
It starts with rich espresso, which is combined with luscious brown sugar syrup for a cozy, caramel-like depth.
Oat milk adds a creamy texture, enhancing the drink’s natural warmth, and a dash of cinnamon adds a little bit of spice to this delicious drink.
Served over ice, this latte is both refreshing and satisfying, making it ideal for a “me time” moment amid a busy morning!
What’s in an Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Latte?

This iced latte comes together quickly with a few simple ingredients.
Espresso
Although I’m sensitive to caffeine and generally opt for decaf or 1/2 caff versions of coffee drinks, you can use regular espresso for this drink.
If your glass is 16 ounces, you’ll need a double shot of espresso, but feel free to use more or less depending on how much coffee flavor you’d like in the drink.
If you don’t have an espresso machine, you can substitute strong-brewed coffee for the espresso.
You can also use a French press to make “shots of espresso” that are very similar to the real thing.
Check out step 1 of this previous recipe for more details on using a French press to make espresso.
A benefit of using the French press is that you can make a larger batch on the weekend and then simply use the leftovers during the week for easier drink prep.
Oat Milk
Regular milk does a number on my stomach, so I generally opt for plant-based milk in all my drink creations.
I’ve experimented with a few different options, including soy milk and coconut milk, but have found that creamy oat milk is the most universal.
It froths really well and doesn’t add a nutty flavor to the drink like other plant-based milks, such as almond milk, often do.
But feel free to use whatever type of milk you have in the fridge—this recipe is all about ease!
Homemade Brown Sugar Syrup
Making my own simple syrup gives me more control over the ingredients.

It’s not that I’m always opposed to eating artificial foods whose names I can’t pronounce.
But when a recipe is this easy, I can’t help but just do it myself!
You’ll need equal parts water and light or dark brown sugar for this homemade simple syrup.
I also love to add a touch of vanilla extract for a hint of flavor variety.

Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Latte Recipe
Ingredients
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup water
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1-2 shots espresso
- ½ cup oat milk
- ice
Instructions
- Combine the brown sugar and water in a small saucepan. Warm over low heat while stirring occasionally until the sugar has completely dissolved. Continue warming for approximately 8-10 additional minutes to really seal in that caramel flavor from the melted brown sugar. Remove from heat and add the vanilla extract. Pour into a glass jar for storage in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

- Pull your espresso shots and add to your favorite glass. Add 1 tablespoon of the brown sugar syrup and the milk. Using a hand frother, add a bit of body to the mixture. Add ice cubes. Add a dash of cinnamon powder over the top if desired, and enjoy!

Notes
Mom Life Pro Tips
Morning Rush Hack
- Prep your espresso shots ahead of time and store them in the fridge. When you’re ready, just pour, stir, and go!
Sweetness Control
- Adjust the amount of added syrup to suit your taste. A little less syrup can make this drink perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up without a sugar crash.
Cold Brew Shortcut
- If you don’t have time to pull espresso shots, keep a bottle of cold brew concentrate in the fridge. Just mix it with your brown sugar syrup and a bit more oat milk than you would use for a latte for a quick and effortless cold brew version.
Ice Cube Upgrade
- Freeze leftover coffee in an ice cube tray. These coffee cubes prevent your drink from getting watered down and keep it extra flavorful until the last sip!
