What is an Iced Mint Mocha Latte?

The name of this drink basically says it all.

This drink is a delightful combination of refreshing mint and tantalizing chocolate, with the subtle undertones of coffee holding it all together.

It’s invigorating yet soothing and the perfect way to celebrate the impending arrival of summer!

What’s in an Iced Mint Mocha Latte?

The idea for this recipe came to me after I discovered the best part of Olive Garden takeout melted into a gloppy mess.

I’m obviously talking about those little mint chocolates they give you at the end of the meal.

I’ve always considered them a vain but tasty attempt at covering the 3 pounds of garlic you just consumed.

At any rate, I love those little chocolates and was highly disappointed at how easily they melted.

But then, it hit me.

I could use those little mint morsels to make a tasty coffee drink.

And the Iced Mint Mocha Latte was born!

Let’s break down what’s in this deceptively simple drink.

Coffee

If you have an espresso machine, you can use it to pull a couple shots of espresso to add to the drink.

Another great way to add a hint of coffee flavor to a drink is with a French press

You can also add a teaspoon or so of instant coffee granules.

If you choose this option, I recommend the Starbucks brand as it has the best flavor.

Milk

When it comes to milk, you have an almost unlimited array of options.

If you want plant-based milk, oat milk adds a depth of flavor and texture that’s absolutely delectable.

Soy milk, as well as almond milk, adds a subtle hint of nutty flavor to the drink.

You can also opt for dairy milk; whole milk gives the drink rich flavor and unmatched creaminess!

If you want the drink to have more texture, use a milk frother. There are many different models, but this one is my favorite.

Mint Chocolate Flavor

Because I love sticking with simple ingredients, the mint chocolate flavor for this recipe comes from Andes mints

The easiest way to incorporate the rich flavor into this drink is by melting the chocolate into the milk.

Although the mint chocolates melt easily, you will have a little that doesn’t completely melt away.

If you don’t like little bits of chocolate floating in the drink, strain it through cheesecloth before pouring it over ice.

Either way, this drink is a sweet treat that’s easy to make and perfect for all coffee lovers!

Prep Time 2 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 12 minutes
Servings 1

Ingredients

  • 3 Andes mints more or less to taste
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 tbsp finely ground espresso or coffee of your choice
  • 3.5 cups hot water
  • ice

Instructions

  • Combine the mints and your milk of choice in a small saucepan.
  • Place the pan over medium heat, stirring frequently to avoid burning, and continue heating until the chocolate has melted.
  • If you want to avoid little bits of chocolate in the drink, pour the mixture through cheesecloth before adding it to the coffee.
  • Add the finely ground espresso to the French press and pour the water over the top. Allow to steep for 6 minutes.
  • Depress the plunger and pour the espresso into an alternate container. You can keep the espresso in the fridge for use in other recipes for up to 3 days.

  • Add a dollop of homemade soft top or whipped cream with a chocolate drizzle or a few chocolate shavings for an extra treat and enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you use cold coffee to make an Iced Mint Mocha Latte?

Yes! You can use whatever type of coffee you have on hand. Most coffee shops rely on espresso for their flavored drinks because it has a strong coffee flavor that balances nicely with the added sweetness of flavored syrups.

Can you add frothed milk to an iced drink?

Absolutely! Frothing the milk before adding it gives this tasty iced mocha latte texture, and a more complex mouth feel.

Can you make an Iced Mint Mocha Latte with flavor syrup?

If you want to skip melting the chocolate as suggested in this recipe, opt for this syrup from Amazon. You can then add a bit of chocolate syrup to give the drink its signature mocha flavor.

Can you make a hot version of the Mint Mocha Latte?

Yes! This drink also makes a very satisfying warm version, perfect for celebrating the holiday season. Skip the ice and combine the milk and coffee while warm, and you’ll have a delectable drink that will chase away all your darkest winter blues!

Can you use candy canes to make an Iced Mint Mocha Latte?

This particular drink has a true mint rather than peppermint flavor. Still, if you’re craving a homemade peppermint mocha, add candy canes instead of Andes mints. Remember to balance the peppermint flavor with mocha sauce to give it that authentic Starbucks peppermint mocha flavor.
