What is an Iced Apple Crisp Shaken Espresso?

The new iced apple crisp shaken espresso combines the crisp flavor of biting into a juicy apple with creamy oat milk and the subtle notes of blonde roast espresso.

This drink proves that although many diehard Starbucks fans consider fall to be pumpkin spice season, the fantastic balance of apple, hints of cinnamon, and richness of espresso combine to create a drink that easily rivals the PSL as the signature fall drink.

I would even venture to say the apple crisp shaken espresso features all the best flavors of a homemade apple crisp in drink form.

What’s in an Iced Apple Crisp Shaken Espresso?

You can quickly whip up a glass of this refreshing drink with a few simple ingredients.

Espresso

If you have a Keurig, you can easily recreate the espresso portion of the drink by opting for the Starbucks veranda blend pods.

And if you have a Nespresso, you can also find Starbucks blonde espresso pods of this roast for your machine as well.

Regular espresso machine owners can find Starbucks brand blonde espresso roast beans to give this drink that authentic Starbucks flavor at home.

No worries if you don’t have a Keurig, Nespresso, or espresso machine! You can still recreate the flavors of blonde espresso with regular coffee.

Go for a blonde roast coffee instead of medium or dark roasts and brew slightly stronger with your drip machine or French press to mimic the espresso flavor of the coffee house version.

Starbucks also makes instant blonde roast coffee, which is a convenient option if you don’t want to mess with a coffee maker.

The instant coffee has a nice flavor that perfectly complements the other flavors in this drink.

I experimented with several different ways however for this particular recipe, my favorite involves making espresso in my French press.

Recreating coffee shop drinks at home should be a fun, stress-free experience, so use what you have. It’s all about using what you have on hand to recreate your favorite flavors!

Milk

The original drink features oat milk to add the hint of oat flavor characteristic of an apple crisp.

But feel free to use any milk you have for this drink.

Almond milk adds a slightly nutty flavor, as does soy milk.

You can also use regular dairy milk, such as 2% or whole milk.

The added fat content in these milks adds more body and substance to the drink.

Up the luxury feel of the drink by using cold foam.

Apple Flavor

There are several ways to recreate this portion of the drink.

If you envision yourself making several glasses of this drink over the next week or so, you can make a homemade batch of apple syrup.

To do this, combine equal amounts of brown sugar and water and several sliced apples. If you want stronger apple flavor, opt for 2-3 large apples for 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water.

I recommend using Honeycrisp apples as their sweet flavor comes through the best in the syrup.

Bring the mixture to a boil and simmer for around 20 minutes or until the apples soften.

Pour the mixture through a strainer to remove the apple skins. Press with a spoon to remove as much juice as possible from the apples.

The mixture will stay fresh for 5-7 days in the refrigerator.

If you want a flavor option that will stay fresh longer, opt for store-bought syrup.

  • 1/4 cup oatmilk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

The hot version of this drink is also known as an apple crisp macchiato. This drink featuring the flavors of apple crisp is one of Starbucks’ featured fall menu items, found only during the fall season.

Recreate your own by warming oat milk and pouring it into your favorite mug. Top with 2 shots of espresso sweetened with apple crisp syrup. Finish with whipped cream or soft top and a light caramel drizzle for added indulgence.

The traditional Starbucks version does have caffeine. But you can order it half caffeinated or even decaffeinated.
