Why do you need an under cabinet coffee maker?
The standard kitchen counter offers between 15-18 inches of space between the countertop and the bottom of the cabinets.
Unfortunately, many coffee makers on the market are too tall to fit under the cabinet or require you to pull them out from under the cabinets to operate the machine.
Even if you have ample space between your counter and cabinets, you may not want a gigantic coffee maker lording over your other appliances.
You may prefer a small machine that tucks neatly out of view or one that matches your minimalistic decor.
This is where the under cabinet coffee maker comes in!
What is an under cabinet coffee maker?
An under cabinet coffee maker is a small appliance that fits neatly underneath your kitchen cabinets.
It ideally doesn’t require you to constantly pull it out to operate daily.
These coffee makers are perfect for small spaces because they don’t take up much counter space.
What are the benefits of an under cabinet coffee maker?

There are several benefits of under cabinet coffee makers, including:
-They save counter space.
-Under-cabinet coffee makers are easy to use.
-They’re compact and perfect for small spaces.
-Some models come with built-in grinders or all-in-one brew options to further minimize extra equipment cluttering up your space
What are the drawbacks of having an under cabinet coffee maker?
The main drawback of under cabinet coffee makers is that they can be challenging to clean.
Since these coffee makers are small, the parts can be hard to reach when trying to clean them.
Depending upon the individual coffee maker, they can also produce steam which can ruin a cabinet that is not heat and water resistant.
Coffee makers mounted underneath cabinets were trendy because they were suspended above the countertop.
Unfortunately, these models had safety issues as hot liquid and suspended glass apparently didn’t mix well together.
Although there are still a few models out there that can be mounted under cabinets, they are challenging to find.
Reportedly, Black and Decker make a space saver model that mounts underneath a cabinet, but it is out of stock on Amazon and challenging to find elsewhere.
And although many people love the countertop space the Black and Decker Spacemaker coffee maker saves, the look is a bit outdated.
It reminds me of something you’d find in a kitchen from the 1990s.
Luckily, many small coffee makers don’t mount on cabinets but are great for small spaces!
We will review a few of those models later in the post but for now, let’s explore what to think about when considering an under-cabinet coffee maker.
What should you keep in mind when choosing an under cabinet coffee maker?
First, consider the size of your kitchen and your available counter space.
If you have a small kitchen, an under cabinet coffee maker is a great option because it won’t take up much space.
Secondly, think about how many people will be enjoying your fresh brew.
If you only need one or two cups of coffee daily, a small under cabinet coffee maker will suffice.
However, if you need to make large batches of coffee for a crowd, you’ll need a larger model.
Thirdly, take into account the features that are important to you.
Some under cabinet coffee makers come with built-in grinders, water filters, and automatic shut-off features.
These are all great features but come at a higher price tag.
Finally, keep in mind the warranty and customer service of the coffee maker you’re considering.
The last thing you want is to buy an under cabinet coffee maker only to find out that it doesn’t work and you can’t get a refund.
Now, let’s get to the best under-cabinet coffee makers!
The Best Under Cabinet Coffee Makers
If you’ve spent time looking at coffee makers for small spaces, you’ve probably seen an overwhelming number of options.
To make things easier, I’ve scoured the internet for the best under-cabinet coffee machines in 5 separate categories:
- Budget-Friendly Option
- Best Option for a Crowd
- Best Coffee + Espresso Option
- Best Pod Option
- Most Bells & Whistles
Although I considered many marvelous machines, my final decision was based on whether the machine would function well in a small kitchen and the overall quality of the machine.
Budget-Friendly Option
Proctor Silex FrontFill Compact 12 Cup Programmable Coffee Maker
This budget-friendly model is just over 11 inches tall and features a front-fill water reservoir.
The best thing about these features is that you won’t have to pull the coffee maker out from under the cabinet to fill it.
And the Proctor Silex model has programmable features, so you can set it up 24 hours in advance and wake up to an entire pot of coffee in the morning.
If you want to sneak a cup while it’s brewing, simply take advantage of the brew pause feature and get your coffee fix faster!
Between the number of cups this machine can brew, the automatic shut-off feature, and its ability to brew a decent cup of coffee, this drip coffee maker is a great option at a low price range.
Best Option for a Crowd
Hamilton Beach Programmable Coffee Maker
Whether you’re brewing for a bunch or plan to drink coffee all day long, you must check out this 12-cup coffee maker by Hamilton Beach!
Coming in at just under 14 inches, it will easily fit under most kitchen cabinets.
And the dishwasher-safe carafe makes cleaning a breeze.
One of the best features of this coffee maker is that it has a front-loading water reservoir.
This means you don’t have to pull the entire machine out to pour water into it.
The Hamilton Beach Programmable Coffee Maker has 3 brewing options, including a regular brew, 1-4 cups, and a robust brew.
And although it does not have an espresso option, it’s a rapid brewing machine.
The machine can brew 12 cups in just under 12 minutes. Pretty fast, right?
Another great thing about this machine is that it has a programmable timer that allows you to set it and forget it.
All-in-all, this is an excellent machine for anyone brewing for a crowd!
Best Coffee + Espresso Option
De’Longhi All-in-One Combination Coffee Maker + Espresso Machine + Milk Frother
Calling all coffee lovers longing to be home baristas!
Coming in at just under 13 inches high is this combination machine from De’Longhi.
With this machine, you can brew up to 10 cups of coffee and pull a double shot of espresso at the same time!
It also features a milk steamer and frother to give your custom espresso drinks the added flavor and texture bonus from steamed milk.
The coffee machine features a reusable brew basket, but you can also choose paper filters.
Although the espresso side features a removable reservoir for water, the coffee side is front loading, so there’s no need to pull the machine out when brewing a pot of coffee.
Depending upon the space between your countertops and cabinets, you may need to pull this machine out to fill the removable water tank.
But depending upon how much you use the espresso side, you may only need to do this occasionally.
And the fact that the water tank is removable only enhances its ability to be thoroughly cleaned.
The De’Longhi is a unique coffee maker that can drip brew for a crowd or show off your barista skills with specialty espresso beverages.
Either way, it’s a win-win!
Best Pod Option
If you want to skip the hassle of dealing with coffee beans, then perhaps it’s time to upgrade to a pod-type machine.
A pod machine is the best way to ensure a cup of coffee or a shot of espresso that’s perfect every time.
And the Nespresso is unique in that each pod has a special bar code that tells the machine precisely how to brew the cup.
The only downside is that it brews only a single cup each time and may not be ideal for households with multiple coffee lovers.
Another feature that sets this machine apart from other under-counter coffee makers is that you don’t need to pull the machine out to fill the water tank.
And you can choose whether the water tank sits in the back or off to either side.
But you do need to lift the top cover to load a pod, so depending upon the height of your counter, you may need to pull it out slightly.
Unlike other machines featured in this article, the VertuoPlus comes in several different colors, including black, gray, and red.
This is good news for all those coffee lovers with a kitchen color scheme to maintain.
