How to Make a Raspberry Chai Tea Latte at Home

Nothing says “comfort” quite like a warm mug of chai!

This traditional Indian beverage has stood the test of time, with its unique and distinctive flavor profile that is a favorite among tea drinkers everywhere.

Chai can be enjoyed by itself or as part of a larger meal, providing an extra layer of warmth and comfort to every sip.

The versatility of chai is one of its main attractions. It can be served hot or cold depending on the season and individual preferences.

Some people enjoy adding a scoop of their favorite sweetener, like honey or sugar, to enhance the flavor profile.

In today’s post, I will show you how to make a raspberry chai tea latte.

Making chai is relatively easy and requires only basic ingredients that can be found in any kitchen.

With just a few simple steps and patience, you can make your own homemade raspberry chai tea latte!

What is chai?

Chai combines several different spices, creating an aromatic experience, unlike any other beverage.

Common ingredients in chai include cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and black pepper.

These spices are combined with tea leaves and warm milk to create the signature flavor of chai that is loved by many.

The combination of tea and spices provides a unique flavor profile that is warming and comforting.

And the sweetness of the milk helps to balance out any bitterness from the tea leaves, creating a perfect cup every time!

Why add raspberry flavor?

Adding a hint of raspberry flavor is a great way to give your chai a unique twist.

Raspberry is naturally sweet and tart, adding an extra layer of sweetness to the spicy flavors of the tea.

The combination of raspberry and spices creates a delicious flavor that is perfect for enjoying any time of day.

Plus, it looks really pretty too!

What’s in a raspberry chai tea latte?

One of the best things about making the homemade version of this drink is that you can mix and match the ingredients to match dietary restrictions or taste preferences!

Black Tea

Although many homemade chai recipes include an iced tea drink mix, mine includes freshly brewed black tea.

The flavor is more authentic with freshly brewed tea, and you can take full advantage of the health benefits of black tea.

Spices

The perfect chai tea latte starts with a blend of exotic spices. My favorite homemade chai mix contains cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, and nutmeg.

Experiment with the flavors and find the combination you love!

Milk

Oat milk is the perfect complement to chai; however, you can use nonfat milk.

Many other powdered chai recipes I’ve found online also contain nondairy creamer, and you can certainly add it to this recipe to give the drink more body.

I stay away from nondairy creamer because it still contains a milk derivative, and I’m lactose-intolerant.

Feel free to use your choice of milk.

Raspberry Flavor

Although I use raspberry syrup to flavor my hot latte, you can use the sweet flavor of fresh raspberries in this drink to avoid artificial flavors and preservatives found in syrup.

If you opt for fresh raspberries, blend 8-10 berries with cold water and blend in a food processor or blender. Strain through a cheesecloth before adding to the drink if you want to avoid seeds.

And if you want a touch of sweetness, add a teaspoon of sugar or Stevia.

Raspberry Chai Tea Latte

Fruity, comforting, and delicious – there's nothing better!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 black tea bag
  • 1 tsp raspberry syrup
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Heat the water.
  • While the water is heating, combine the spices. As you will only use 1/2 teaspoon of the mixed spices per cup of chai, store the remainder in an airtight container for up to several months.
  • Combine 1/2 teaspoon of the spices mix and the raspberry syrup in a mug. Add the tea bag and pour approximately 1/2 cup of hot water over the mixture.
  • While the tea is steeping, add the milk and vanilla extract to a milk frother. You can also use a blender or handheld milk frother to get the milk to your desired consistency.
  • Remove the tea bag after 3-5 minutes of steeping. If you don't want the spices at the bottom of your cup, pour the mixture over a strainer and into a second mug.
  • Pour the frothed milk over the spiced tea, top with a sprinkle of cinnamon, and enjoy!

Is drinking chai healthy for you?

Although my knowledge of spices is somewhat limited, I have found evidence to suggest that cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger have positive, hormone-balancing effects.

They are shelf stable for long periods, and mixing your own blend enables you to customize the spiced mixture of milk to your preferences.

Opt for the organic version of spices if you’re concerned about pesticide residue.
