Simple Peppermint Chocolate Cream Cold Brew Recipe

I’ve recently become OBSESSED with a specific flavor of decaf coffee from Crazy Cups.

I love it so much that I recently bought 3 packages!

The flavor is peppermint mocha, and it’s absolutely delicious!

And since I love it so much, I wanted to come up with a unique recipe featuring the flavor.

I actually came up with this combination while daydreaming during my son’s basketball game.

While researching it, I discovered a similar Starbucks drink featuring these flavors.

Although this recipe is not necessarily a copycat, it is simple, delicious, and has less sugar than the Starbucks version.

This recipe also features nondairy ingredients, something you won’t always find from the big chain coffee shops.

Without further ado, let’s get to it!

What is a Peppermint Chocolate Cream Cold Brew?

The base of this drink is homemade cold brew concentrate.

Using flavored coffee in this drink cuts down on the added sugar while preserving the main flavor of the drink.

The drink is finished with a creamy, chocolate cold foam that melds perfectly into the cold brew coffee.

In short, this drink is peppermint perfection in a cup!

What’s in the Peppermint Chocolate Cream Cold Brew?

This drink comes together quickly with ingredients from your local grocery store.

Cold Brew Coffee

I use this container to make my own cold brew.

Simply add 6 tablespoons of the Crazy Cups decaf peppermint mocha in the grounds chamber and fill the pitcher with cold water.

Let it brew in the fridge for 12-18 hours and voila!

You have the easiest way to make your very own peppermint cold brew.

I decided to use peppermint coffee as my base so I could avoid adding extra sugar.

But you could consider using regular store-bought cold brew coffee and adding a bit of peppermint extract.

Adding 1 teaspoon of peppermint simple syrup to a basic cold brew coffee concentrate is another option but would add to the overall sugar content of the drink.

If you’re using store-bought cold brew concentrate, you may want to dilute it with a bit of cold water; otherwise, the strong coffee flavor will overtake the other flavors in this drink.

Nondairy Chocolate Cold Foam

The creaminess of the cold foam comes from a combination of plant-based heavy whipping cream and creamy oat milk.

But you could also use almond milk or even dairy-based products if dairy isn’t an issue for you.

Add a little cocoa powder and a teaspoon of sugar, and you’ve got yourself the tastiest homemade chocolate sweet cold foam ever!

  • Once frothed to your liking, pour the cold foam over the iced cold brew coffee and enjoy! Garnish with a few dark chocolate curls or crushed candy cane for an extra treat.

Notes

Recipe makes an 8 ounce serving.
If you like a sweeter drink, add a teaspoon of simple syrup to the cold brew coffee. Or better yet, sprinkle crushed candy canes on top! As the layers blend, the candy canes will melt into the drink giving you extra peppermint-y goodness!

Final Thoughts

The next time you’re craving a tasty treat from a coffee shop, try this recipe!

I’m all for the coffee shop experience but have learned that unless you’re opting for straight-up, no-frills coffee drinks, there’s a ton of added sugar I simply don’t need in my diet.

And just like the feeling my son gets when he makes a basket, there’s a feeling of accomplishment that comes with figuring out a better way to make these drinks at home.
